HV Infrastructure Operations Manager

🕒 Full Time – 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Milford RES is recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the High Voltage (HV) private power networks sector. We are seeking an experienced HV Infrastructure Operations Manager to lead the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of high-quality HV network services.

The Role

The Operations Manager will oversee field service teams and ensure reliable, technically excellent service delivery across a portfolio of High Voltage private power networks. This role is responsible for operational performance, safety compliance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across HV maintenance and response activities.

The position plays a key role in maintaining operational resilience while supporting the continued growth and reputation of the organisation within the HV network services market.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of HV service teams including SAPs, engineers, and field technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with HV safety rules, switching protocols, and relevant statutory and industry standards.
  • Plan and allocate resources effectively to support planned maintenance, fault response, service delivery, and project activities.
  • Oversee incident response and network restoration activities, ensuring safe and efficient outcomes.

Service Delivery & Performance

  • Drive high standards across HV maintenance, inspection, testing, and emergency response services.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including SLA compliance, response times, system availability, customer satisfaction, and first-time fix rates.
  • Ensure accurate job planning, scheduling, and reporting through operational systems.
  • Conduct service performance reviews and identify opportunities to improve network reliability and reduce unplanned outages.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation and internal safety management systems.
  • Maintain HV authorisations, competency frameworks, and training requirements across the team.
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
  • Ensure all work meets required quality standards including relevant BS standards and customer requirements.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the operational point of contact for key customers.
  • Provide performance updates, technical insights, and operational reporting to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage service escalations proactively and ensure timely resolution of operational issues.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support HV operational teams to drive engagement and performance.
  • Manage training programmes, authorisations, and succession planning for critical HV roles.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and competency assessments.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Commercial & Financial Management

  • Provide operational input to support bids, proposals, and contract renewals.
  • Manage operational budgets and support cost control initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate recording of labour, materials, and operational costs.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvements, operational efficiencies, and additional service offerings.

About You

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status or previous HV authorisation desirable.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Technical Experience

  • Extensive experience working with High Voltage networks (11kV – 66kV).
  • Strong knowledge of HV switching procedures, network operations, and safety rules.
  • Experience managing field service teams within a safety-critical environment.
  • Understanding of DNO/IDNO standards, maintenance regimes, and compliance requirements for private networks.

Leadership Skills

  • Proven experience leading and motivating technical teams.
  • Strong organisational, resource planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working in customer-facing service or contractual environments.
